Our Mother Earth is currently suffering from different types of pollution brought about by humans, there are plenty of things we can do everyday in contribution to mother nature in order to make a less harmful impact on environment. Taking care of the Earth is not just a responsibility, it’s a necessity. ¬In that spirit. Here I have come up with, “10 Things I Do in Contribution to Mother Nature”:

1 No more plastic utensils

I stop using all this while keeping in mind that all these utensils not only going to affect my health but also harm my environment. As a scuba diver, I know the stories of water creatures stuck and choke with plastics are real issues.

2 I use metal straws

Before the demands get high and the prices hike, I fancied the metal straws for their variety in colours and secured one set for myself. Although I do not quite like the cold sensation given by the metal straw whenever it is dipped in cold water, I believe the shift is a good move for everybody.

3 Write behind the receipts

I had done this for almost 10 years now. People who know me know why my handbag is full of receipts sometimes. Well, they are not just for tax deduction purposes, but they have more important role to the mother nature.

4 No more buying of magazines & newspapers

Initially, I was a subscriber to the Times and Reader’s Digest magazines. But over the past 5 years, I had stopped purchasing not because I love them less, but because they are also available online.

We are being choked to death by the amount of plastic that we throw away. It’s killing our oceans. It’s entering into our bodies in the fish we eat.

5 Turn off the handphone by 10.00 p.m.

Another one of 10 things i do in contribution to mother nature is i turn off handphone by 10.00 p.m. I began doing this when I read about the danger of your WiFi being turned on without switching off. Because I cannot turn off the WiFi in respect to my children who may need to use it in the house, I opt to switch off my phone by 10.00 p.m. daily.

6 Cloth pads

There are a number of us ladies in the house. One day, I talked to my husband about how much is he actually spending in a month to get us our sanitary pads. As we laughed at the truth, it knocked sense to me that I should find alternative for it. It is because I used to use tampons too, which is a much cheaper, but I know, I can hardly promote them to my children as they may not like the idea of inserting something in their vagina (especially when they are just young adults – they freaked!). So, I decided that I would go for cloth pads rather than the menstrual cup (which could probably be plastic rather than latex, I dunno!)

7 That iconic blue IKEA bag

It goes with me everywhere now. Initially there were only my shopping trolley and an IKEA blue bag in the trolley, but now, the iconic bag has resided in my handbag instead. And whenever I check in a hotel room, I take it out instead of taking the hotel’s laundry bag.

Speaking of hotel, I do not take home either their shampoo or bar soap and my used toilet roll too. Why? So that they can save and I contribute to the mother nature in that way. Sometimes I even bring everything from home. Save the mother nature, baby.

8 Simply reject plastic

Yes! Just say no to plastic. Even if you go around without your own shopping bag, please stop accepting plastic bags. Consider if things can fit into your handbag and just tuck everything in it the next time you go shopping.

9 Stop taking the flyers that you actually took out of courtesy

There is always a friendly way to say no for the things you do not want to accept. So, nowadays instead of taking any flyers because I feel bad for the salesperson, I rather decline them in a nice way. It is equally meaningless to take them home when you do not even look at what the flyers are all about. So, rather than let people waste by printing more, contribute to the mother nature by simply declining the flyers you do not spend any time to read.

10 Reuse and recycle as much as I can

Last but not the least of 10 things i do in contribution to mother nature is, I reuse and recycle as much i can. I am very good at this. Whatever that can be reused and recycled when get into the circles when they are with me. Let me be clear, to reuse and recycle do not mean you have to be stingy and calculative. They are certain things you can buy new, but not everything has to be new all the time.
